Incorporating Obesity and Weight Bias Training Improved Attitudes of Hospital Staff Towards People With Obesity in Alberta

      Over 90% of people with type 2 diabetes have obesity or are overweight. People who live with obesity often report experiencing weight bias and stigma when accessing health care. The Diabetes, Obesity and Nutrition Strategic Clinical NetworkTM has worked to improve inpatient glycemic control in people with diabetes throughout the province and we now aim to improve the care and experience of people living with obesity in hospital. Our first step was to pilot an initiative that developed standards and guidelines for improving obesity care with hospital staff. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of the implementation of educational resources on weight bias among hospital staff.
