In their study, Katz et al explored the depictions of type 1 diabetes (T1D) in North
American English-language film and television.

They highlighted how media often portray patients with T1D negatively, or at times
“forget” that characters have T1D. The authors proposed that more advocacy needs to
be done by large diabetes organizations. Using Grey’s Anatomy as an example, they emphasized the importance of consulting health professionals
to ensure accuracy in media portrayals of patients. As we (a film director, a producer
and a physician) have previously collaborated to produce a short film on modifying
stigma on people living with chronic illnesses,
